This coming Saturday, July 18th, Greg Rucka will be signing / meetin' and greetin' at Olympic Cards & Comics in Lacey, WA (aka the Best Comic Store In The Known Universe™). The festivities start at noon and run 'til around 5 pm or so.
Greg is promoting, among other things, his stellar work on the current run of Detective Comics for DC (featuring the controversial new Batwoman). It is astoundingly good work, and Greg deserves a lot of praise for it.
The store is located at 4230 Pacific Avenue, Lacey WA, 98503, and can be reached at (360) 459-7721.

...I thought I might take a break from pimping JSA Vs. Kobra: Engines of Faith #1.
My good friend, Greg Rucka, has an interview up on IGN.com, talking about his Batwoman run in Detective Comics, which will be kicking JSA v K's ass in the sales charts.
Greg's Batwoman stories -- what little I've been privileged to see -- are astoundingly good, and JH Williams III's artwork is even better; a Rucka/Cully Hamner "Question" co-feature in each issue is also an excellent reason to shell out your hard-earned cash for a copy.
And you really should.
In any event: here's Greg's interview. Enjoy.
Brandon and I were pleased to see Wide Awake (you've read it, right? Hm? HM?) get some love from the comics press.
Pop Culture Zoo led the charge (thanks, Joseph!), followed quickly by Newsarama (thanks Matt and Vaneta!); Elliot Serrano's RedEye Chicago blog picked it up as well (thanks Elliot!).
For the most part, the webcomic has been well-received, and we're eager to bring you the next installment.
If you liked the webcomic, please let us know, either here, or via my website, or the host site for the comic -- wideawakeonline - at - gmail will also get you a response. We're eager to hear from you.
Hopefully, this'll end the in-your-face shilling for a bit, and I will resume normal blogging activity shortly: bitching about X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Star Trek, TV shows, etc. and generally being a misanthrope.
Getting ready to hit the road, pleasantly tired.
Free Comic Book Day was a resounding success -- aside from blowing through the ridiculous number of free funnybooks, we set a store sales' record, and everyone who came in seemed to have a fabulous time.
Got to spend time with old friends like Brandon Jerwa and his charming/awesome family; Eric Nylund (who was accompanied by his wife, novelist Syne Mitchell and their son); Joshua Ortega and his wife and children, and Neal Bailey and his charming bride.
Sold several posters, talked up the webcomic (which has been well-received), and generally spent a frantic day running from pillar to post helping people somewhat overwhelmed by the whole experience.
A really good day, and my sincere thanks to all the guests, friends, regular customers and staff.
Will sleep the sleep of the righteous tonight, I think.
Reminder: Tomorrow is Free Comic Book Day. Participating retailers across the globe will be handing out free funnybooks, so you should find a comic shop near you, and stop in to claim your sweet, sweet funnybook loot.
Tomorrow, my wife's store -- Olympic Cards & Comics, located at 4230 Pacific Ave. in Lacey, WA -- will be hosting several guest signers: Brandon Jerwa (writer of Battlestar Galactica: Season Zero, among others); Joshua Ortega (writer of the Gears of War comic); Eric Nylund (cowriter of Battlestar Galactica: Cylon War, and author of a trio of Halo novels), and Neal Bailey (poet, raconteur, writer for the Superman homepage and for Bluewater's "Female Force" political biography comics, including Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama, and Sarah Palin).
Please do stop by.
(And don't forget: tomorrow, point your browser at www.wideawakeonline.com for the first six-page "teaser" for the upcoming webcomic, Wide Awake, written by Brandon Jerwa & I, with pretty pictures by Mirco Pierfederici and David Messina.)
(Oh, yeah, and we'll be selling posters, too.)
My friend and frequent collaborator, Greg Rucka, writes -- among other things -- an excellent series of suspense novels featuring former-bodyguard-turned-uh, something else, Atticus Kodiak. (For a good profile on Greg and the Atticus books, check out this Publisher's Weekly interview.)
The new Kodiak novel, Walking Dead, hit stores in hardcover today. For details, I commend you to Greg's recently-redesigned (by the most excellent Eric Newsom) site.
I was fortunate enough to read some of the draft-in-progress, and enjoyed it immensely. Hard-hitting, exciting, and thought-provoking stuff, with Greg's signature excellence with character and dialogue.
It's not like it's hard to find on say, Amazon (oh, look, a Kindle edition), Borders, Barnes & Noble, Powell's, among other places.
:)
Congrats, Greg!
The DC Comics blog space, The Source, has a new article by the dauntless Alex Segura, a look at some of the behind-the-scenes work and discussions that went into creating the covers for the upcoming JSA vs. Kobra: Engines of Faith six-issue series.
I've worked -- and continue to work -- with some great artists and writers; it's been the real blessing of my work in comics. Apprenticing under Greg Rucka, batting mad ideas around with Brandon Jerwa, checking out new character sketches from Chris Samnee, or watching page after page of awesome appear in my inbox from Don Kramer and Michael Babinski... it's been exhilarating.
Chewing over designs and sources of inspiration with Gene Ha is definitely one of the highlights, though.
So, click on over to The Source and enjoy.
My third(!) podcast interview with the unruly mob that is Johnny Gigawatt & The Tiger Men From Mars just went live, in which we blame technical errors on Warren Ellis, and I discuss the upcoming JSA Vs. Kobra series, and Wide Awake—the webcomic I'm working on with Brandon Jerwa, Mirco Pierfederici and David Messina. (Some teaser art from the series may also be lurking behind the link.)
Go. Listen. Bask. BASK, I say!
Joseph Dilworth, Jr. of Pop Culture Zoo stopped by and chatted with Brandon Jerwa and I during Emerald City Comic Con. The predominant subject of discussion was the Wide Awake -- the upcoming webcomic Brandon and I are hard at work on (along with our stalwart artist colleagues, Mirco Pierfederici and David Messina).
Some discussion of JSA vs. KOBRA may have bled into the conversation as well. I'm not really sure.
Also featured in the article is a look at the "cover" to the first installment of Wide Awake; David Messina will be providing an opening illustration to each installment.

[edit to fix Joseph's name, because I am a blockhead with a head what's made of blocks.]
In case you missed it on Brandon Jerwa's various blogs:
Brandon and I are writing a webcomic, a concept we introduced in a 9-page teaser included in Image Comics' PopGun, Vol. 2 (and which you can read here, along with author commentary, for the shockingly low price of FREE).
The PopGun piece was drawn by David Messina and Mirco Pfederici, two outstanding illustrators based in Italy. (And hey, guys, you should totally convince a convention organizer in Italy to fly Jerwa and I out.[ \ hint ].)
For the webcomic, Mirco is taking first chair, with David providing "chapter covers" and assists. Mirco has posted his first pass at a character study of our main character, Amanda Carter, over at the webcomic's eventual home. (Bookmark it! There will be goodness there.)
The link for Mirco's fine image is here, though it is probably not work safe, since there's some nudity. (The comic itself will be largely PG-13 and work-safe, incidentally.)
Oh, yeah, and Jerwa has a Twitter feed now, too.
