Because, you know, it would be wrong to treat gay people like they're human beings, entitled to the same rights, privileges and responsibilities of hetero couples.
Dear California Supreme Court:

Some bright spark somewhere should figure out the legal argument that posits that, since a gay couple is denied the same legal rights as hetero couples, they do not enjoy the full range of state-proffered services, and thus should be exempt from full taxation.
